Tom always felt wierd and different growing up the only Chinese in a white suburb of Boston. When he moves to San Francisco to stay with a distant cousin, he discovers a world beyond his wildest dreams; a "new" Chinatown teeming with young rich hipsters and fast mopeds. But behind the glimmer lies a world far more sinister. Will Tom diiscover the secret of new Chinatown before it is too late?

Double Happiness was my first genre story since Grave of the Crickets. Like Grave of the Crickets, it was also very personal. I created Double Happiness after returning from a semester abroad in Singapore and a large part of the story is based on my experience there.

In September of 1999, Double Happiness won the Xeric Foundation Grant. I am using the money print up 2,500 copies!
