After all my years as a cartoonist, working and studying to master the form, it's depressing to think that The Family Circus is still my best selling product. At a recent convention, I decided to double the price to discourage people from buying it. It subsequently became my biggest money maker as well. When the online version of the comic first appeared on the web, it came in at number three when "family circus" was typed into the yahoo engine. In truth, I whipped the comic out in two days flat. At the time, I was so embarrassed by it, my name isn't even on the comic. Yet I've recieved more recognition for this than all of my other works combined. This sloppy little comic has cursed my entire career. I can almost imagine the first line in my obituary. It is my Citizen Kane, if Citizen Kane was a piece of crap.
Why is hatred such a strong emotion?
